RENEGADE RAMBLE. Day 27: 9.2 Miles
Total Mileage Thus Far: 185.5 Miles

I’m seeking $20 donations for each mile, but will accept any amount. ProtectOurPreserve.org/donate

Taliesin Trail. Quartz Trail to box Canyon and back. Up to Taliesin Overlook and back on Taliesin to Trailhead.

Red velvet mites spring from the damp trail as though it had been pin-pricked. I pronounce our forever friendship. We are blood sisters.

Rugged and rocky, with visible milky quartz outcropping, the Proterozoic palace that is Quartz Canyon offers privacy and perspective. The Trail through the canyon is a bit spotty and best explored with one who is already familiar with the area or comfortable with orienteering.

A family from Texas poses for a family portrait at Taliesin Overlook. They pronounce our mountains huge and beautiful. Mountain bikers race up and down Taliesin Trail and I worry about the red velvet mites. {Yes. I worry about mites.}

For a thorough geologic history of the area, please take a look at the following website.

If you’re still with me, I owe you a great debt. You’re encouragement and enthusiasm have meant a great deal.

A song for today:
